Essential Functions

  • Provide herbaceous garden care by conducting routine horticultural activities, including site and soil preparation, planting, transplanting, mulching, weeding, watering, and pruning.

  • Care for woody plantings through weeding, pruning, mulching, and other horticultural activities

  • Ensure that plants receive adequate water by managing watering systems and performing manual watering, adjusting methods as needed based on weather conditions and seasonal requirements

  • Safely operate and maintain various hand tools, small, electric power tools, and garden machinery, ensuring equipment is used correctly to perform daily horticultural tasks efficiently

  • Maintain garden pathways or associated garden areas ensuring they are well-groomed, safe, and free from debris

  • Collaborate with others as needed to ensure efficient and thorough completion of work tasks

Qualifications and Skills

  • Desired: Minimum one year of gardening or horticultural experience or demonstrated knowledge of gardening practices and techniques

  • Required: Passion for native plants, shrubs, and trees, with an interest in ecological horticulture

  • Required: Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Will Train: Proficiency in safely operating and maintaining various tools and equipment

  • Required: Valid driver's license in good standing

  • Required: Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

  • Required: Basic computer skills with willingness to learn new technology

 Physical Requirements

  • Regular physical activity including standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting and crouching; strenuous physical work required

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Conscientious in using and wearing safety gear as needed

Schedule and Compensation

  • Ability to work two 5-hour shifts between the hours of 8:00 AM  and 2:30 PM Monday -Thursday

  • Typical schedule: Tuesday & Wednesday, between 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM

  • Alternative schedules may be considered based on candidate needs

  • Hourly rate: $18.00 per hour

  • This is a permanent position and offers educational opportunities and for growth for anyone interested in landscape design, native plants, and garden maintenance
